Self Care

gardening, agriculture, grass

Welcome to the first installment, Self-Care. Now Sure there are thousands of psychology today articles and blog posts you could read instead of this…In fact I’d encourage you to read those along with this video in hopes of expanding your toolbox. What I’m hoping draws you to Talks With A Therapist, and more specifically this post, is the wealth of experience offered by our clinicians and the fact that these videos and posts are us testing out our own advice.

By using a bit more of myself as the therapist I’m hoping to normalize everything covered. I have no desire to sit here and cast out unrealistic expectations of self-care activities that just further frustrate you. I know just how easy it is to get lost in the noise of whats going on around us. You Are Not Alone.

Much like the symptomotology Of ptsd, covid-19 is inducing sensory overload. Depression, anxiety, changes in sleep cycle etc. we’re seeing it come to surface in all new ways.
But thats where psychotherapy comes in. Myself, as well as the hundreds of thousands of other therapists in the world are here to help you foster a calm head space.

This might sound bizarre but i actually want you to better practice social distancing. Tune away from the tv and the barrage of information from all the different news outlets. There’s a fine line between staying informed and getting consumed.

Work on a new hobby. Learn a language. Plan imaginary trips to new countries. Practice cooking and break out of your comfort zone. I can’t tell you how many conversations I’ve had with clients wanting to discuss new recipes and how they’ve broken out of typical 9-5 rushed dinner routine. Practice mindfulness. Disconnect from social media for at least an hour a day. Take a bath, go for walks. Exercise. Every therapist will propose 100 different activities.

Challenge your creativity and break out of the forced routines this pandemic has led to.

I won’t try to flood you with anymore than what i have already. I hope you enjoyed some of this content and you keep following this page for more. Stay tuned!
